What is IC3?
IC3 (pronouced i-see-three) is the abbreviation of the Internet and Computing Core Certification." The IC3 is a certification program that originated in the United States which is designed to teach individuals the digital literacy skills associated with basic computer and Internet use.

In the UK we pioneered the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), which followed good old British impartiality, the test would say a word processor, a spreadsheet, etc making it software vendor neutral.

Certiport, who run the IC3, knew that was great but the reality is you will use Microsoft Word as the Word Processor, Excel as the Spreadsheet, so IC3 is similar to ECDL but uses Microsoft products.

Is it worth taking IC3 instead of ECDL?
It is really up to you, perhaps your employer wants ECDL but IC3 is a worldwide, internationally recognised certification, endorsed by Microsoft - that teaches real skills for use in todays digital world
